Simple Steps To Clean Your Sub Zero Refrigerator

Why Clean Your Sub Zero Refrigerator

Like all appliances, your sub-zero refrigerator needs regular cleaning and maintenance. Proper cleaning of your appliance ensures its maximum efficiency. The chances that it will suddenly stop cooling are lesser, and it also saves you costly sub zero refrigerator repair down the road.

The refrigerator coils are one of the most critical parts of your sub-zero fridge. Your appliance relies on this for removing heat and providing cold air to your unit. Over time, debris and dust may build upon these coils. When these coils are dirty, your refrigerator has to work harder to keep the appliance cool. It’s advisable to clean the coils at least once or twice a year to avoid the need for costly sub zero repairs.

Easy Steps To Clean Your Sub Zero Refrigerator

To clean the coils, you will need gloves, a brush and a vacuum cleaner. Always turn off the power before cleaning. Do make sure not to bend the condenser fins as that may damage the parts.

Remove the refrigerator grille found on top of the unit in most models. If you are not sure where the grille is, either check the manual or ask the manufacturer. Gently use the brush for removing dirt and debris. Be careful when cleaning to avoid disconnecting other parts. Use the vacuum for clearing out the compartment. Reinstall the grille and let it run for at least a day.

Cleaning the Exterior

It’s a best practice to use either a microfiber cloth or lint-free cloth when cleaning the exterior. Stainless steel polishes and cleaners or lemon pledge are ideal. To avoid damaging the exterior’s finish, do not use a product with abrasive cleaning surfaces.

When cleaning, do not apply the cleaner directly to the fridge’s surface, or you may leave streaks. Apply it to the cloth and polish in the same direction. Make sure also to clean the handles and knobs. Gently clean the entire exterior to avoid marring the finish.

Cleaning the Interior

Use a non-abrasive sponge or microfiber cloth for cleaning the interior. Gentle liquid detergents such as Joy or Ivory are ideal for removing dirt quickly. For the plastic parts, always use a mild detergent for bleach, and vinegar may damage them. For wood components and lights, use a damp cloth.

Stubborn food stains can be removed by a wet cloth applied with detergent and warm water. Let it sit on the dirt for about 10 minutes until it softens. Gently remove them when softened. Residue should be scrubbed with a soft cloth or a baking soda and water solution.

To deep clean, the interior, remove the shelves before cleaning. Use mild detergent and microfiber cloth for cleaning the interior. For the shelves, you may put them in the dishwasher.

Flooding emergencies or outages may also allow the growth of mildew or molds in your appliance’s compartment. Clean then with a ratio of 1:10 of bleach and water. Use an only microfiber or lint-free cloth for this. Rinse with clean water thoroughly.

Please make it a habit to regularly clean your sub zero refrigerator to extend its lifespan and avoid costly repairs in the future.
